New Water Filter Systems ?

Sawyer Micro Squeeze

Hydropak 3litre

Hydroblu Versa Flow

Renovo MUV Survivalist Water Filter System

Grayl Ultra Press

A video from Sigma 3 Survival School came up using the Sawyer Squeeze in conjunction with a Hydrapak 3 litre bladder bag. That interested me, however finding the adapter to fit the water bag was harder than I thought. The adapter ended up being from hydrapak and not Sawyer. I prefer the Micro Squeeze for the flow rate, size and thread system to combine with the hydrapak pack sleeve. I’m also purchasing a new grayl ultrpress to have a lighter filter to the full size for hiking. While looking these up I stumbled across the Hydroblu versa Flow, that I’m considering as an option over another Sawyer mini for a backup.

Ive owned a Renovo MUV system for some time without testing it and am amazed these aren’t mentioned more commonly on you-tube, being the only small filter system I can find that also removes viruses.

I’m trying to set up a few different systems to what I’m currently using to loose weight, making it easier for me to carry.

Upside Down Guy Lines

There have been many videos on you-tube of late about improving ridge-lines, however not many looking at improving guy-line set ups.

I like the idea of an upside down guy-line to have the tensoining knot permanently attached to the tarp corner and then use a quick loop to attach the tent peg further down in the ground.

I have tripped over my guy-lines in the night several times and prefer them to be tied lower. The timber in Australia is much harder to carve tent pegs. Im also switching over to trying bank line for the guy-lines. Ive had hottchie cord become so tangled after pegs pulling out in high winds, it took hours to untangle. That I swapped to 3mm paracord, however It still become too bulky and also tangled. I’m hoping the bank-line being not being as flexible will fix that problem.

Below is a friction hitch that improves on using the Taut Line hitch for a permanent knot attached to the tarp and Ive been playing around with several knots for the tent peg, between a Clove Hitch variation, Anchor hitch and Slip knot but have settled on a Pile Hitch being the fastest and easiest to remember.

Offroad Recovery kit (Downsized)

Ive gradually been putting together a small recovery kit. When I had my 4WD I could carry full sized tools however when transitioning to van life Ive had to downsize.

This consists of the CRKT Chogan Mattock and Hammer/hatchet, along with the Cold Steel Spetsnaz Trench Shovel. The Cold Steel Special Forces Shovel would probably be the better fit for sizing to match handle lengths but when using a shovel to get out of the bog I prefer the longer handled version.

What I like is that the handle from the mattock and axe are interchangeable. I now have to find a canvas maker that can sew up a tool roll to hold all three pieces of equipment. These three tools should get me out of most situations.

A handle comparison the special forces is approx 9 inches shorter than the trench shovel.

New Blades

Cold Steel Taipan San Mai
Applegate Fairbarn Boot Knife
Mora Garberg stainless
LT wright GNS Sabre Burlap with Snakeskin scales

Some more knives to do reviews of if I can stay out of hospital long enough. I found the daggers on sale and couldn’t resist. I like to keep up my collector status. When I sold my Carbon Garberg I ended up regretting the sale and brought the stainless for my training course blade. The GNS i still havent made my mind up about it. Im going through a 6 inch blade thing at the moment.

Knife Law Reform

Ive been thinking quite a lot lately as to whether to put up any more knife pics. For that matter even taking down old pics with the way things are looking in this world with law reforms concerning blades. Then the below poem came to mind. For evil to flourish it only takes people not to make a stand.

The only comment I can make on stopping knife crime is. I have never seen a stabbing or a robbery reported with the perpetrator using an expensive blade such as which is used by collectors and bushcrafters. The junkies and mentally unfit go to supermarkets and hardware stores to purchase the cheapest, nastiest piece of crap to commit crimes with. When they ban blades which they eventually will to include the total disarming process then it will come down to hammers, screw drivers, sports equipment. The Leftards will never stop!

And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Communist
Then they came for the Socialists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Socialist
Then they came for the trade unionists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a trade unionist
Then they came for the Jews
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Jew
Then they came for me
And there was no one left
To speak out for me
