Trout Pond

I was told there is a trout pond further up stream under the old church , where the trout become trapped after a large storm. I made my way knee high through the stream and did a short hike through the brush trying to find it. Plenty of deep pools but no access when you have a stuffed knee. Ill have to try and make a crossing further up over the culvert for better access. The concrete was covered in to much moss to risk the knee the day I was there. I’m trying to borrow a canoe to explore that section of water.

Grey Shrike-thrush

One of the things I like so much about bushcraft are the varied skills lists that you can develop. Ive never been a bird watcher but Ive become interested in identifying wildlife around me. One sound in particular has been driving me crazy trying to figure out the bird it belongs to. A Grey Shrike thrush. Its taken several weeks of going through youtube bird songs trying to pick the song.

Blog Update 17

Finally back on the mountain bike after months of trying to build up the knee on the gym bike. I actually get less stress to the tendon from the mountain bike being electric assist. 5kms yesterday and 8 today but I’m feeling it, 6am starts. Trying to keep off the heavy pain killers. Its going to be the only way to get fit again. Found a new track to explore through a small national park. Lots of wildlife, mostly snakes and kangaroos.

great view to start the day
great pathways
the path creeps along the river
timber walkways through out the area

What a better way to start the day.

Van Build 25

What they don’t tell you on youtube with Vanlife is the maintenance. Its great when everything works but a major headache when something breaks down. The breaker switch burnt out and its taken three days to find a replacement on ebay. No other auto suppliers or electrical stores had the same one to fit in the available space. Ive had to replace it in the meantime with a 30 amp fuse to get power to the batteries from the solar.

I just purchased the Pathfinder Stainless Swedish Mess Kit. Ive become interested in mess kit cooking after watching Blackie Thomas cooking series on youtube. However I didn’t realize that it was a three piece kit and had to order the alcohol burner separately. Looking forward to testing it out this weekend if the burner arrives today. Looks like a well made rugged piece of equipment. Not the lightest but will last forever.
