I was shown a trick with a ferro rod on one of my first bushcraft courses of tying it to a length of paracord and attaching it to your belt loop so it couldn’t be lost. I found using a single or double length of paracord always twisted or knotted. So I started doing this with a reverse twist and found I had no more tangles. This is my latest version .No more trying to do fancy double pieces of braid or joins. Just slip the striker straight onto the primary cord. Ive also stopped using 550 cord instead using three strand paracord. (425 tactical 3mm). Link below.
What no one tells you about van life. The maintenance. Three hours replacing the rocker cover gasket and inter-cooler hose gaskets. Another two hours trying to get it to start again. Came down to having to blow out the tubes for the injectors and revving the crap out of the engine after priming.
There are several brands of cheap under $10 birds beak peelers that are being incorporated as Pikal blades. Victorinox and Zwilling among the best. These are then bound with bank line to improve the grip and the looks. From looking around I have also found a $50 model with a full tang that I am going to remove the timber grips and grind out the rear divet on the back of the spine before attempting to do a Japanese style braid. I don’t believe anyone has tried this with a full tang before.

Testing out the olive Sea to Summit dry bags. They seem to be made of heavy duty material. I cant think of a better way of testing than to have it exposed to the elements 24/7 protecting the computer on my mountain bike.

After several more weeks confined to a hospital room over Christmas and New years I came to the conclusion that its time to give up on several martial arts and just specialize on the arts I really love, due to scar tissue and injuries. Im sticking to maybe Arnis and definitely Aikido Jo staff and really want to learn as many blade styles as I can possibly find. Bowie at the top of the list along with Pikal. The needle point Nephilim to fill the Bowie roll.
