Ive gradually been putting together a small recovery kit. When I had my 4WD I could carry full sized tools however when transitioning to van life Ive had to downsize.

This consists of the CRKT Chogan Mattock and Hammer/hatchet, along with the Cold Steel Spetsnaz Trench Shovel. The Cold Steel Special Forces Shovel would probably be the better fit for sizing to match handle lengths but when using a shovel to get out of the bog I prefer the longer handled version.

What I like is that the handle from the mattock and axe are interchangeable. I now have to find a canvas maker that can sew up a tool roll to hold all three pieces of equipment. These three tools should get me out of most situations.

A handle comparison the special forces is approx 9 inches shorter than the trench shovel.
