When I was involved with SAR and Arborist work I was never shown the Purcell Prusic Knot. We always used a Double Fisherman’s knot as a joiner with a Prusic for our safety attachments and lanyards with a combination of tubular nylon for ascending, no mechanical s. I don’t know if it still like that.

I was actually looking at SAR kit contents on you-tube, thinking of getting back into that field in some direction or another and came across the Purcell in one of the below clips on that subject.

The reason I was looking at tying one was as a light anchor out of paracord for a hand-line for fishing to make sure I didn’t loose the hand-line into the drink when casting and ended up on a whole other tangent of updating my knowledge on climbing knots and breaking strains.

Its amazing how much information is out there and the need to cross reference everything to make sure it actually works.
