Pathfinder 32oz 1 Quart Bush Pot

all 3 bush pots compared alongside the 48 oz nesting cup

I purchased the 1 quart bush pot with the hope it would fill a gap for me. Which it has done. The 3 quart, Unless I’m cooking for a group I would only use for boiling water, for dishes and purifying. The 2 quart for cooking for two people. The 48 oz nesting cup I really wanted a bail handle on it which is why I purchased the 1 quart pot. just to cook for myself and to use the middle sized pot for boiling water.

the one quart will fit inside the 2 quart if the spout is turned sideways to accommodate the bail handles

Sawyer Filter Modification

complete system

I wanted to create a small gravity filter system but wasnt very happy with the stength and size of the bags supplied with most brands. To purchase an MSR system just for the bag your looking at $200 for the base model and 4500 for the larger system.for a Sawyer Mini and a Renovo bag it came to around $100. The Sawyer also filters more water than the MSR at 3000 litres compered to the Sawyer at 100,000 litres.

Swagman Roll Alternatives

I was watching the below clip from Corporals Corner and trying to figure out how I could ever afford another Swagman Roll for my gear, when after his suggestion I thought well do I really need another . How often do I require a poncho ? Or will a blanket suffice? Can I swap around different products to suit weather conditions and seasons? I had never owned a standard Woobie and found an Australian version on Eprey from Platatac era 2010. So Ill be trying out the following three options over the next few months and seeing where they fit within my systems.

Helicon Tex Swagman Roll Adaptive Green 145 x 200cm

Platatac Terra Firma Australian Army AMCU Colour Poncho Liner WOOBIE Blanket. 208 x 143 cm

The challenge

The challenge to any of you out there that are trying to prepare yourself to educate yourself to be a better protector and someone that can render Aid to other people I want to challenge you not just to take anything you see off social media take it at face value and start implementing that right away take some time to dig into this and figure out are there other people that are doing this as well is this just one person’s idea of what is a good thing to do or am I collectively taking a bunch of data from a lot of people and saying yes it seems that this trend is consistent among a lot of people and something that is applicable to where I am right now and the setting that I am working in so not only do we have to make sure that the data we’re getting is good solid data from a majority of people that are all validating this data but then we have to make sure that this applies in the specific area that we plan to be using it and that’s kind of what we’re talking about.

Purcell Prusic Knot

When I was involved with SAR and Arborist work I was never shown the Purcell Prusic Knot. We always used a Double Fisherman’s knot as a joiner with a Prusic for our safety attachments and lanyards with a combination of tubular nylon for ascending, no mechanical s. I don’t know if it still like that.

I was actually looking at SAR kit contents on you-tube, thinking of getting back into that field in some direction or another and came across the Purcell in one of the below clips on that subject.

The reason I was looking at tying one was as a light anchor out of paracord for a hand-line for fishing to make sure I didn’t loose the hand-line into the drink when casting and ended up on a whole other tangent of updating my knowledge on climbing knots and breaking strains.

Its amazing how much information is out there and the need to cross reference everything to make sure it actually works.
